Clauss / Mayer House : 1963

721 Treehouse Lane, Sacramento, CA

6 beds / 3 baths / 3,804 sq ft / 52,707 sq ft lot

"The Mayer home, in tone rustic and informal, rambles around an almost U-shaped courtyard and looks over a wooded field. Like many of Sparks' homes, it suggests a mountain lodge because of its dark, natural wood walls -- and, in spots, a cave, because of its walls of natural rock."

- David Weinstein, "Signature Singular Sparks", http://www.eichlernetwork.com/article/signature-singular-sparks, 02/01/2010

Notes:
Weinstein notes the Mayers did some sheet rocking over of the natural stone walls in the master bedroom and kitchen. For the purist, it would be possible to re-expose that Sparks feature. In addition, it appears that the trellised eves visible in the 1965 photos have been covered over by sheet plywood. Rebuilding those would re-introduce another salient Sparks detail. The Archive has the blueprints for this house.
